The integrated fertigation chilli cultivation project piloted through the programme demonstrates the ministry's intent to introduce high-value, resource-efficient crop alternatives to traditional commodity monocultures. Chilli cultivation, particularly using drip irrigation systems that minimize water consumption during drought periods, aligns with both climate adaptation imperatives and market demand dynamics favourable to smallholder profitability.

The ministry's acknowledgement of secondary agricultural sectors within its policy framework indicates broadening attention to smallholder income diversification.
